If you have problems, press the center jog dial button, this switches from the radio adaptor to intercom mode. You need to press the button very quickly or it won’t pair. Trun on the Shark BT2WAY adaptor, and hold the BT button for 6 seconds, light will flash red, blue. Turn on the SPH10, or other Sena headset, and enter universal pairing mode by holding the jog dial for 8 seconds. Use your Sena headset universal headset profile to pair with the BT2WAY adaptor. Here’s the secret to pairing the Shark AKA BT2Way Radio Adaptor to a Sena headset. You read a lot of bad reviews on the Shark Radio Adaptor also known as the BT2Way Radio Adaptor. You can also add a GPS, or audio device to the Sena headset using the 2 aux inputs. It allows me to use the PTT on the BT adaptors 18″ cable that goes to the radio, or use the wired PTT switch that plugs into the radio adaptor.

I’m sure the in the helmet headset don’t have this problem.Īnyway I use the Sena headset with a Shark Bluetooth radio adaptor. I sent mine back twice, finally just added support from some epoxy. I use the Sena SPH10 behind the head BT headset and it has a problem with the backstrap breaking. After lots of money and time, I found the Sena headsets work best. Some newer 9800’s appear to have been wired differently so be sure to verify the +5V and GND pins before wiring a different mic to your radio to prevent any possible damage to your equipment.īrad I’ve tried all kinds of BT headsets on my Yamaha Royal Star Venture.
🙂 2018 Update:Brian, KI5CEY, let me know that this schematic ended up being backwards or flipped compared to his radio, see his diagram here for connecting an Astatic Mic. All of my TH-9800’s were purchased in 2014 and match this schematic which TYT sent me. I’m willing to give up DTMF functions for better audio right now since I can always swap out to the original mic if I need any rarely used DTMF commands, besides most of my DTMF use is mobile and there will be a Kenwood TM-V71 finding it’s way to my vehicle soon.
If neither of those will work I’ll look into Kenwood and other brands to see if I can find one that is compatible with the TYT radio.
I’ll be making an adapter cable to see if I can get a Yaesu DTMF mic or Icom non-DTMF mic working with this radio in just a day or two. The diagrams listed on most sites are completely wrong and many even show an 8-pin RJ-45 connection however this radio has never shipped with anything but an RJ-12 6-wire modular connection. This doesn’t sound like a big deal but since I use a whole bunch of different radios I do forget from time to time and blow someone away by holding the mic close to my mouth as I would any other radio. It’s terribly sensitive and will over modulate my audio unless I rest the mic in my lap. I’ve been thinking about the possibility of using a different mic with my TYT TH-9800 Quad Band Transceivers for a while now since the main issue I have with the radio is how hot the mic input is.
